Selection Case Study: Thermo-Mechanical Applications

This collection of case studies provides five examples of materials selection for thermo-mechanical applications: (i) energy-efficient kiln walls, (ii) sauna walls, (iii) minimizing distortion in precision devices, (iv) ceramic valves for taps, and (v) storage heaters. All case studies include background information and further reading as well as taking a student through the process of determining constraints and objectives and translating them in to performance indices and instructions that Granta EduPack can understand. They are based on case studies provided in the book Materials Selection for Mechanical Design (Ashby).
