New application provides access to authoritative materials data within leading FEA software

Cambridge, UK – November 11, 2014 Granta Design today announced the release of GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway™ for HyperMesh®, which provides quick, traceable access to materials data and applications within HyperMesh, the CAE pre-processor from Altair’s HyperWorks® suite. This new application further reinforces MI:Materials Gateway as the standard for accessing and applying managed materials data across a broad range of CAD, CAE, and PLM software.

Quality materials property data is a pre-requisite for accurate design and simulation. Granta has worked with some of the world’s top engineering enterprises to develop best practice in managing, accessing, and applying materials property information. The resulting GRANTA MI™ software enables these companies to store and use both their corporate materials knowledge and an unrivalled catalog of Granta-supplied materials reference data on thousands of metals, plastics, ceramics, composites, and natural materials.

GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway for HyperMesh appears as an embedded application within HyperMesh, putting this authoritative materials information into the hands of simulation engineers. It complements the flexibility of HyperMesh in supporting multiple CAE solvers. Switch solver profiles in HyperMesh, and the MI:Materials Gateway does likewise—presenting CAE material models relevant to the current solver profile. This ensures the right materials data, in the right format, with full traceability, when and where it is needed.

GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway for HyperMesh ensures traceability to the company’s “gold source” materials data. At any time, authorized users can access and retrieve additional information on chosen materials via the live link to the master database – in some cases from hundreds of available properties on each material.  Whether for simple linear-elastic analysis or full strain-rate dependent stress-strain models for crash simulation, control over versioning of materials properties provides notifications directly in HyperMesh if materials properties used in FEA have since been updated.

“We believe that MI:Materials Gateway revolutionizes the accessibility and quality of the materials property data used in design and engineering software,” commented Dr. Arthur Fairfull, product director for Materials Strategy and PLM Integration at Granta Design. “Working with our partners Altair, we have developed a practical, easy-to-use interface for accessing materials properties and models from GRANTA MI directly within HyperMesh, providing easy and consistent access to approved materials models. This saves time for individual CAE engineers, and also integrates them into their company’s overall strategy for materials information management.”
