Design requirements are often specified in terms of engineering requirements rather than material properties. For example, I have a cantilever beam of length x, it has a load of y applied to the end and it must not deflect more than z. In order to find materials that meet these requirements it is necessary to convert these requirements into target strength and stiffness value. This can be done by referring to text’s such as ‘Roak’s formulas for stress and strain’ or you can use the Engineering Solver in CES Selector.

This session covered the Engineering Solver and showed how it can be applied in material selection projects.
