Materials Education Symposia

The meeting place for the global community of materials educators

The Materials Education Symposia are the leading forum for materials educators in undergraduate engineering, design, science, and sustainability.

The events are organized with input from an International Advisory committee, co-ordinated by Granta Design, with support from leading educational institutions and materials and engineering societies.

The Symposia allow educators to come together and discuss ideas, tools, and best practices, that relate to the teaching of materials across enginee ring, design, and science. With a packed program of high-quality talks and poster sessions, the event provides an ideal opportunity for participants to engage in lively discussions and network over lunches and the Symposium dinner.

“I’ve been to 8 of the 9 Cambridge Symposia and I was furious to miss one! I try to come every year because there is something new every year. It’s very informal, friendly, and positive, you meet new people, and learn new approaches. In bigger conferences, you may only have a one-hour session on pedagogy – at the Symposium there are people who are interested in research, teaching and industry. It is in the genes of the Symposium, and it is down to the personality of Mike Ashby.”
