Originating from Professor Mike Ashby's work at Cambridge University CES EduPack enhances the teaching of materials at all levels of university education across Engineering, Science and Design. CES EduPack is used by over 1000 across the globe, including leading universities across Europe from TU Delft in the Netherlands, University of Manchester in the UK, Chalmers in Sweden and KIT in Germany.

Dr Dean "The interactive sessions were well put together, run by helpful and friendly staff. These helped me and my colleagues get to grips with the software at both a basic level and then onto a more advanced level by the end of the 2nd day. This has not only helped in my understanding of what is possible but given me ideas of how to change my assessments and teaching to get the most out of it for both myself and our students. This session is great for those that lack confidence in the software and want to be able to teach with it."
Dr Julian Dean, Lecturer in Material Science, University of Sheffield

WorkshopWhether you already use CES EduPack in your teaching, or have heard about the resources and would like to know more, take a trip to Aachen and participate in our workshop to discover CES EduPack and contribute to its future development. From simple examples to engage introductory materials and engineering students, to applied design projects using visual, interactive and systematic material selection methodology, the interactive sessions will inspire your teaching.

The workshop will be led by Markus Hantschmann and Dr. Claes Fredriksson from Granta Design. You are sure to leave Aachen enlightened and entertained!

About the presenters

Markus Hantschmann, Education Development Manager, Granta Design
Markus is leading the Education and Research related activities in German speaking countries and helps to develop the German and Science driven Teaching Resources with a focus on material science for all level of studies.

He holds MSc degree from TU Berlin in Physics during which he spend time at the Chemistry department at Queens University Canada. Markus worked in various countries on topics related to correlated materials and especially on the development of new X-ray based experimental methods for their further understanding.
  Markus Hantschmann
Dr. Claes Fredriksson, Senior Materials Education Consultant, Granta Design
Dr. Claes Fredriksson is a Senior Materials Education Consultant responsible for Training at Granta Design in Cambridge (UK). He has more than 15 years’ experience teaching Materials-related subjects to undergraduate and post graduate students in Sweden, Canada, Belgium and the U.S.A, mainly in Mechanical Engineering. After gaining an MSc in Engineering Physics and PhD in Theoretical Physics he worked in both theoretical and experimental research on polymers, metals and biomaterials (at Chalmers). He has a passion for teaching and won a grant as part of Sweden’s Excellence in Teaching Programme to enable him to teach in the U.S.A. and facilitate the cross-pollination of pedagogical approaches. Claes is an Associate Professor and works with academics across the world, collaborating on producing teaching resources and running CES EduPack training.
