Case Study: High-Performance Skateboard Design

with Dr Claes Fredriksson and Luca Masi

Join this webinar on Tuesday, October 18 to discover how to engage your students in an Advanced Industrial Case Study about High-Performance Skateboard Design.

Based on a design by FORCE Technology in Denmark, we will illustrate how CES EduPack can be used to optimize performance by investigating composites and structural hybrid materials to create a longboard design used for high speeds and slalom competitions.

Join this web seminar to:

  • Learn from a real case study how to select materials for a high-performance design
  • Discover how to model the properties of hypothetical hybrid materials using the Synthesizer Tool
  • Find out how to visualize and understand the similarities and differences of these materials
  • See where to find other industrial case studies to engage your students.

How to register and join the session

There is no cost but registration is required through the WebEx system. Please ensure you set your local time zone to receive accurate meeting invitations and test your setup in advance of the meeting. How to use WebEx, including setting times zone & language preferences

About the Presenters

Dr Claes Fredriksson has more than 15 years’ experience teaching Materials-related subjects to undergraduate and postgraduate students in Sweden, Canada, Belgium and the USA, mainly in Mechanical Engineering. After gaining an MSc in Engineering Physics and PhD in Theoretical Physics he worked in both theoretical and experimental research on polymers, metals and biomaterials. He has a passion for teaching and won a grant as part of Sweden’s Excellence in Teaching Program to enable him to teach in the USA and facilitate the cross-pollination of pedagogical approaches.

Luca Masi is an Aerospace Engineer working at Granta Design as Development Manager for USA. He has previously collaborated with the French Space Agency and Thales-Alenia Space on software development for bio-inspired interplanetary space trajectory optimization and on computational techniques for engineering decision-making at the Advanced Space Concepts Laboratory, University of Strathclyde (UK). He is author of more than 10 peer reviewed papers, including book’s chapters for AIAA and IEEE. He also has R&D industry experience in spacecraft propulsion systems as well as experience in private teaching, having tutored more than 20 students across engineering universities in London. Luca holds a Master’s Degree in Space Engineering and a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace Engineering from Universita’ di Pisa (Italy), and is completing a PhD in computational techniques for aerospace engineering applications. He has recently lead workshops on material selection at TMS conference and Northwestern University.
