This event has now passed. Archived information and downloads follow.

Open seminar: March 12

User Group Meeting: March 12-13

Location: Rheinhotel Vier Jahreszeiten, Meerbusch (near Dusseldorf)

Join us for an Open Seminar addressing materials information challenges in industry, where two guest speakers will be discussing the materials information challenges faced by his organization and the ways in which these challenges are being addressed.. The event will be of interest to any industrial materials scientist or materials engineer, and to engineers and managers in areas related to materials. These include: product development, the supply chain, quality, purchasing, warranty, and teams focused on environmental objectives. You will hear case studies from industry, see the latest materials information technology, and get the chance to discuss your issues with peers in leading engineering enterprises.

Following the Open Seminar, users of the GRANTA MI or CES Selector software are invited to the User Group Meeting. This will provide opportunities for training, sharing experiences with other users, learning about the latest developments and planned enhancements, and providing your feedback and input to the Granta development team.

Both of these events are free of charge, but pre-registration is required and places are limited.

11.20 Ensuring value from corporate materials information (Fatih Cetin, Granta Design)
The materials information available within and to your company is a valuable asset. But only if you capture this information effectively, can trace and validate its pedigree, and can make it available in a way that ensures it can be applied. This session will describe and demonstrate:
  • A system providing a single source for all corporate materials data
  • How to manage critical Materials & Process data (e.g., from testing, QA, research)
  • Storing and linking to data beyond M&P (e.g., preferred materials, restricted substances)
  • Deploying data to the engineering desktop
'Ensuring value from corporate materials information' Slides
12.00 Applying materials information to meet key business challenges (Dan Williams, Granta Design)
How can we apply available materials information to make better materials decisions? This session will discuss methods and tools for:
  • Materials selection and substitution in the context of key business challenges (lightweighting, cost reduction, design for global manufacturing)
Helping to manage risk due to restricted substance regulations such as REACH
'Applying Materials Information' Slides
12:30 LUNCH & INFORMAL DISCUSSION
13.30 Industry case study (Mrs Anne Farken, BMW Group Designworks USA)
To provide context for the later discussions, our guest speaker will give insights into materials information challenges within the design process and speak about ways in which these challenges are being addressed.
PARALLEL SESSION 1: GRANTA MI PARALLEL SESSION 2: CES SELECTOR
14.00 Applications within CAD, CAE, PLM
(Arthur Fairfull, Granta Design)

An update on GRANTA MI:Materials Gateway which provides materials data and tools within software including Abaqus/CAE, ANSYS Workbench, Autodesk Inventor, CATIA, Creo, NX, Pro/ENGINEER, and Teamcenter. In particular, we will demonstrate:
  • Easy access to accurate data for use in design and simulation
  • Design for compliance and reporting on factors such as restricted substances, critical materials, and eco impact
CES Selector 2014
(Charlie Bream, Granta Design)
Review of the key tools and data available within the CES Selector software—ideal for existing users to make sure that they are aware of the latest capabilities, and for others as an introduction to the system.
