Reducing environmental impact in the early stages of design

Make informed materials decisions using CES Selector

Join our webinar on Tuesday, December 8, to find out how CES Selector and its integrated Eco Audit Tool can help you to quickly estimate the environmental impact of a product over its entire life cycle, compare alternative design concepts in early-stage design, and inform materials selection.

CES Selector is Granta’s PC software, enabling materials experts to explore materials data and apply this data as they analyze materials decisions.

  • Find out about the factors driving environmentally-informed design
  • Discover the difficulties in assessing environmental impact in the early stages of design
  • Watch a practical case study focused on how CES Selector can be used to quickly estimate the environmental impact (energy usage and CO2 footprint) of an existing product and to apply a rational method to identify alternative materials for reducing this impact, while meeting economic and performance requirements
  • Learn how these capabilities enable study of ‘what-if’ scenarios on different design concepts and inform strategies for reducing environmental impact

Further information

Eco Audit graph80% of the environmental impact of a product is determined during the design stage. As a result, it is important to think about environmental factors at this point, while you still have the opportunity to change both your material choices and basic design. However, this can be challenging. You either need to find environmental data for materials that you may not have considered previously, or find lower-impact alternative materials that also meet the performance and economic requirements of the product.

CES Selector and the Eco Audit Tool integrate a methodology to assess the environmental impact of product designs with powerful materials selection and substitution capabilities to guide early-stage product design. These tools help you to minimize the cost and effort required to meet regulatory requirements or corporate environmental targets and support you in introducing eco design into your existing processes and clearly communicating the benefits of your design decisions.

Join this webinar on Tuesday, December 8 to see you how CES Selector and the Eco Audit Tool provide ready access to a vast quantity of data on engineering materials, and tools to quickly identify the most appropriate solution for environmental impact of existing products and find alternative materials.

Who should join the web seminar?

This session will be of particular interest to:

  • Product designers, engineers, and materials specialists interested in assessing the environmental impact of products or materials in the early stages of design.
  • Materials experts responsible for recommending materials to designers, advising purchasing, resolving regulatory and environmental issues.

About the presenter

Dr. Charlie Bream is the Senior Product Manager for CES Selector at Granta Design. After completing his PhD on recycling of thermoset composites at Brunel University, he spent 14 years in industry working on the development of lightweight materials and structures for British Aerospace (Space Systems), Pera International, and NXT before joining Granta in 2007.
