Cost reduction through material replacement

How do leading consumer product enterprises do it?

More and more companies are discovering how they can reduce costs and improve performance by making the right material choices. Join this webinar on September 18 to make sure you don't get left behind:

  • Learn how you too could reduce materials-related costs while improving performance; what cost reduction techniques could you use today?
  • Watch a practical case study focused on finding lower cost alternatives for next-generation products, drawing on the experiences of companies such as Fortune Brands Home & Healthcare (Moen).
  • Discover how you can gain greater confidence in materials recommendations.
  • Minimize the risks associated with changing materials by identifying the properties that differ in substitute materials.

There are many costs associated with materials. As well as the direct costs associated with the base material, its processing, and the material selection and qualification process, there are also indirect cost that arise when suboptimal or inadequate materials are specified. This can lead to additional design, test, and prototyping iterations, pulling resource from other product developments and potentially even delaying time to market.

Once in the market, suboptimal materials can result in premature failure leading to customer dissatisfaction, increased maintenance/warranty returns and product recalls which all undermine the brand reputation. According to SMITHERS RAPRA, around 70% of plastic products fail prematurely, and 45% of these failures are due to poor material selection or substitution.  So how can you ensure the right decisions are made?

Join this webinar on Thursday, September 18 to see you how can quickly evaluate the cost/performance trade-off for all commonly used engineering materials—enabling you to readily identify the most appropriate material for your application and to understand its benefits and limitations—prior to the more costly modeling and material qualification stages. The can lead to a reduction in the number of prototyping and test iterations, speed up the time to market, and reduce the risk of in-service issues and recalls.

Who should join the web seminar?

This session will be of particular interest to:

  • Product designers, engineers, and materials specialists at companies focused on the manufacture of consumer products, household appliances, and electronic devices characterized by relatively rapid product development, high product turnaround, constant innovation.
  • Materials experts responsible for recommending materials to designers, advising purchasing, resolving material issues.

This webinar is the first in a series looking at cost reduction case studies from a variety of industries. Visit our website to join events for Material Producers, or those in the Medical, Aerospace, and Automotive industries.
