ASM Webinar:
Medical Device Materials Selection:
A Researcher's Perspective
Guest Speaker:
Waseem Haider, Ph.D.
Research Scientist, Orthopaedics Research Laboratory
State University of New York (SUNY) at BuffaloFacilitator: Gary Mushock, ASM
Gather your colleagues and see first-hand, specific examples of medical device materials selection, evaluation and how data may be used in selecting and testing during the research and development process in an academic environment.
Biomaterials play an important role in today’s modern world to replace or treat various parts of the human body. However, the choice of biomaterials used has been restricted by mechanical, chemical and biocompatibility properties of the material in meeting the requirements of the specific application. Therefore, the development of cost effective biomaterials with enhanced properties either by innovation of new materials or improved performance of existing materials by various surface treatments is a novel area of interest. The main focus of this webinar is on how ASM Medical Materials Database can be used in academic research environment. Wide range of cardiovascular and orthopedic materials such polymers, metals, composites and ceramics will be discussed in detail.
The continually updated, one-of-a-kind Medical Materials Database contains information on materials, biomaterials, drugs, and coatings used in both cardiovascular and orthopaedic implants. It also includes biological information on materials that are in 510K and PMA devices, including combination devices like drug eluting stents, FEA analysis, material and device producers, FDA information, and much more.
During this webinar, use of the database in an academic setting will be demonstrated. Experience the advantage of using this unique desktop reference on materials, drugs, and coatings used in the selection, evaluation and resourcing of materials for medical devices development. Its utility will be demonstrated through content searches and unique engineering software capabilities. Get reliable, peer-reviewed and relevant information with just one click.
