Summary - Why Granta?

The promise of the Materials Strategy Consortium is built on firm foundations with Granta.

Past — Granta was founded in 1994 by Professor Mike Ashby of Cambridge University, a respected world authority on materials and process selection. Professor Ashby's approach, embodied in the Cambridge Engineering Selector software, is widely used in education and industry. Over time, customer demands encouraged Granta to address wider issues of materials information management, analysis, and deployment, resulting in the GRANTA MI system. (More history, in the About section of this site...).

Present — GRANTA MI is now established as the leading system for materials information management in engineering enterprises. At the heart of GRANTA MI is a powerful database, designed specifically to handle materials information. The database interacts with an extensive portfolio of tools to get, manage, deploy, and use this information. Included are simple, browser-based interfaces that make it easy for any user to access the data that they need. GRANTA MI is maintained and updated with regular releases. (Latest release, in the Products section of this site...)

Future — We are the materials information technology experts. Granta's team has a proven track record in working with customers, individually and via collaborative projects such as the MDMC, to develop solutions that meet their needs. We will apply this experience alongside the Materials Strategy Consortium, to continue development of a unique new materials strategy capability, bringing new insight, rigor, and profitability to our customers' specification and use of materials.
