Automotive Materials Strategy Workshop

Materials Strategy Software ConsortiumThursday, October 6, 2011
The Inn at St. Johns, Plymouth, near Detroit, MI

This one-day event, sponsored by the Materials Strategy Software Consortium, will take place immediately following the CPDA PLM Road Map 2011 Conference (October 4-5). Although the focus is automotive, we welcome participants from the Engineering Process, Materials or Design functions of any industry, with an interest in improving the way material and process decisions are made in your organization.

Why does the automotive industry need Materials Strategy software?

The pressure to cut automobile weight and cost—and to streamline engineering processes in the wake of reorganizations and cutbacks—has never been more intense. Materials innovations in high strength steels, composites and lightweight alloys may provide the answer. But inappropriate material substitutions could compromise design requirements and lead to expensive re-tooling or even product recalls.

  • How can you support lightweighting and cost reduction initiatives in the current climate of reorganization and cutbacks?
  • How can consistent, informed materials decisions be made when you design, manufacture, and sell products globally?
  • How can you ensure all relevant materials and process information reaches your designers in sufficient time to support effective product decisions?
  • How can you work effectively where there is a long-established culture of using only familiar materials and keeping knowledge locked up in local pockets of expertise?

To meet these challenges, automotive suppliers and OEMs need a new approach to the way materials information is managed and used across the engineering organization. Join Granta, the Materials Information Technology Experts, for this focused workshop and learn about practical approaches to the “Materials Strategy” challenge.

Why should you attend the workshop?

  • Learn how the aerospace industry has been defining best practice in materials data management since 2002
  • Hear from guest speakers in the automotive industry about their approaches to the materials strategy challenge
  • Hear from Granta experts about the latest tools to standardize and deploy materials knowledge across the enterprise, raising the ‘material intelligence’ of design groups, shortening design cycles and eliminating the cost and risk of poor material decisions
  • See new, practical approaches to restricted substance risk management, eco design and composites data management.

About the Consortium

The Materials Strategy Software Consortium runs collaborative projects which define new software and tools to manage materials data and apply it to the challenges of material selection, substitution and cost optimization. Consortium Projects allow members to influence Granta's software development, benefit from each other's visions and expertise, and get early access to new technology.
