Firm foundations: past, present, and future
The promise of the Materials Strategy Forum is built on firm foundations
with Granta.
Past — Granta was founded in 1994 by Professor Mike
Ashby of Cambridge University, a respected world authority on materials
and process selection. Professor Ashby's approach, embodied in the Cambridge Engineering Selector software,
is widely used in education and industry. Over time, customer demands encouraged
Granta to address wider issues of materials information management,
analysis, and deployment, resulting in the GRANTA MI system. (More
history...).
Present — GRANTA MI is now established as
the leading system for materials information management in engineering
enterprises. At the heart of GRANTA MI is a powerful database,
designed specifically to handle materials information. The database
interacts with an extensive portfolio of tools to capture, control,
search,
browse, analyze, and distribute this information. Included are simple,
browser-based interfaces that make it easy for any user to access the
data that they need. GRANTA MI is maintained and updated with regular
releases. (Latest release...)
Future — We are the materials information
technology experts. Granta's team has a proven track record in working with
customers, individually and via collaborative projects such as the
MDMC, to develop solutions that meet their needs. We will apply this
experience alongside the Materials Strategy Forum, to continue development of a unique
new materials strategy capability, bringing new insight, rigor,
and profitability to our customers' specification and use of materials.
