StahlDat SX
| What is it? | The complete Register of European Steels (known as the ‘Stahl-Eisen-Liste’ in German), their specification data, and temperature-dependent properties. |
| What is in it? | Data for over 2,500 steels in the Register (chemical composition, mechanical properties, material forms, suppliers) plus temperature dependent properties for over 450 of these from the publication SEW 310. |
| What is it used for? | European steel selection in design and procurement; input data for design, analysis, and processing; and research. |
| Where does it come from? | Licensed from the German Steel Institute (Stahlinstitut VDEh) of Duesseldorf, Germany. The European Steels Registration Office is part of the Institute and SEW 310 is published by the Institute. (SEW = Stahl-Eisen-Werkstoffblatt). |
| How can I access it? | Via the GRANTA MI materials information system - StahlDat SX is available within a reference database that also includes the MI-21 data. As a standalone data module within the CES Selector desktop PC software. |
Description
StahlDat SX brings together into one Granta data module:
- The Register of European Steels (Stahl-Eisen-Liste) the official compilation of all registered and maintained European Standards for steels according to EN10027-2. This is maintained by the European Steels Registration office at Stahlinstitut VDEh of Duesseldorf, Germany
- Chemical composition, mechanical properties, forms, delivery conditions, and suppliers for these materials
- Temperature-dependent data for over 450 of these materials (per SEW 310)
The GRANTA MI implementation enables efficient sharing, searching, browsing, and use of this data. You can access StahlDat SX within the same integrated environment as other valued materials information reference data and, optionally, your own in-house data.
StahlDat SX data in GRANTA MI.
StahlDat SX can now also be accessed through the CES Selector desktop software, taking advantage of the CES Selector graphical tools for materials comparison, property charting, and selection.
GRANTA MI and CES Selector are designed specifically for materials data. This means, for example, that they are excellent at handling the temperature-dependent data which is one key feature of StahlDat SX. This data is presented as graphs, with easy-to-use tools to access the underlying numbers, study the effects of varying the parameters, and interpolate specific values.
Other notable features of this data include the ability to query both current and withdrawn grades and to cross-reference between producers, materials, and available forms.
What data is included?
The Stahl-Eisen-Liste includes over 2,500 steels, 440 of which are stainless steels.
- 480+ non-alloy standard steels
- 150+ alloy standard steels
- 440+ stainless steels
- 200+ non-alloy special steels
- 1,000+ other alloy special steels
Data on each steel includes:
- Material designations: material number per EN 10027-2 (Werkstoffnummer), shortname per EN 10027-1, tradenames, characteristics, purpose
- Cross-reference to table of delivery conditions (applicable European Standards)
- Composition specification
- Mechanical properties: yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, impact energy (Charpy V-notch), hardness, shearability
- Cross-reference to table of suppliers
- Available forms
- Withdrawn grades
- Temperature-dependent data (for 450 materials)
- Density
- Thermal expansion coefficient
- Modulus of elasticity (Young’s Modulus)
- Specific heat capacity
- Specific electrical resistivity
- Thermal conductivity
- Thermal diffusivity
Applications
Using this data, you can perform tasks such as:
- Find any European steel by any identifying designation (number, name, trade name) or Standard
- Find steels which meet property criteria and are available in required forms
- Find which suppliers produce the required material need in the required form
- Export data via Excel or other format of your choice into design and analysis tools
