MaterialUniverse

The Polymer Edition of MaterialUniverseThe MaterialUniverse data module has been updated and extended, enhancing its wide-ranging coverage of engineering, cost, and eco property profiles for the full range of engineering materials:

  • New equivalency / designation fields make it easier to identify and find substitute materials across different designation systems
  • Revised, more informative, tree structure for metals makes it easier to find the information you need
  • 59 new wrought Al records (11 alloys + tempers)
  • 9 new cast Mg alloys (AE, AJ, Elektron)
  • 6 new steels (2 HSLA, 3 boron press hardened, 1 structural steel)
  • 14 new GFRP records (8 polyester, 6 polyamide based)
  • 9 new fillers (8 particulates + basalt fiber)
  • New data on ‘Electrical components’, increasing the number from 22 to 43

PlasticsIDES plastics

CAMPUS Plastics contains new and updated mechanical, rheological, thermal, electrical, processing and other properties, now covering over 6,000 plastic resin grades from 20 raw material producers. All data is measured according to strict CAMPUS ISO standards.

Tthe new edition of Prospector Plastics (previously known as 'IDES Plastics') offers by far the largest collection of ASTM datasheets, now containing 88,000 datasheets from 870 suppliers; 68,000 datasheets listing ASTM standard properties and 39,000 datasheets listing ISO properties.

Metals

The StahlDat SX steels data, licensed from the German Steel Institute (Stahlinstitut VDEh), provides essential input data for design, analysis, and processing, as well as for research. The update includes the latest additions and withdrawals from the official European Register of Steels, plus an improved and updated Supplier section.

The MI-21 (‘Metals Information for the 21st Century‘) data consists of specifications, standards, trade literature, and datasheets from the World Metals Index (WMI), plus data on metal joining and surface treatment consumables from The Welding Institute (TWI). The MI-21 project is coordinated by NAMTEC (the UK’s National Metals Technology Centre), who have added hundreds of additional alloy and consumable specifications in the last year.

Engineers and Designers working with aerospace alloys will welcome the opportunity to access and apply MMPDS-06 data securely, quickly, and traceably. This pre-eminent source of materials property data for aerospace component design (previously known as MIL-HDBK-5) now contains 2,611 datasheets, including new records on precipitation-hardened stainless steel, alpha-beta titanium alloys, and aluminium-beryllium hybrid alloys.

The ASME BPV Code data on the metals used in boilers, pressure vessels, and power plant components has been updated to include the latest information on, for example, design stress. Maintained by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), it offers access to both PDF copies of the ASME service book pages and a structured 'live' database providing the property data for search, comparison, analysis, and export to CAE/CAD.

MMPDS-06

The NIMS data module, launched earlier this year, provides searchable access to metals property data from Japan's National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS), experts on the long-term behavior of metallic materials. The creep and fatigue characterization data generated by NIMS is important for design, maintenance, and overhaul of, for example, power stations and processing plants.

The new StahlDat Sheet Steels for Automotive database contains a comprehensive set of test data for 36 popular automotive sheet steel grades, including: elastic, plastic, and cyclic tests; high strain rate data; forming limit diagrams; and bulge tests. The data comes from a collaborative test program run by the German Steel Institute VDEh and a consortium of automotive OEMs and steel producers

Medical

The third edition of the Human Biological Materials data is now available, supporting those who need to find and compare properties of bone materials as well as the newly added materials such as cartilage, dentin, enamel, ligaments, and tendons.

By including new information covering regulatory bodies in Europe, Canada, and Australia (in addition to existing coverage of the US FDA) the latest release of the Orthopeadic and Cardiovaslcular Data Modules that make up the Medical Materials Database have increased their global relevance. Enhanced FDA recalls data and medical device approvals (510k and PMA), together with new information on the suitability of different processing techniques for particular materials, help you to make more informed materials and process choices, and to justify these during certification.

Restricted substance and eco data

The new Critical Materials data module provides data on supply risks to 67 key elements and their impacts on over 3,500 engineering materials. This information helps you to perform a data-driven risk assessment for materials supply risks and take early mitigating action to ensure business continuity and reduce long term costs of production.

The Restricted Substance Data Module underwent its regular quarterly release in October, providing the latest information on legislations, substances, and their impact on materials.
