MDMC logoMDMC discuss CAD & CAE integration during Consortium meeting at Lockheed Martin

Cambridge, UK—January 2013 The New Year started well for MDMC members, with three days of discussion and hands-on demonstrations of the latest materials information management solutions. The Consortium discussed the development plans for the next release of GRANTA MI, Version 7, which is due in late 2013. They picked up some 'Tips and Tricks' for getting the most from the latest functionality in GRANTA MI Version 6. These demonstrations proved so useful that members have requested more of such technical training: this will be an important part of future meetings.

There was strong support for the Consortium to support more projects that help to integrate materials information with CAD and CAE. An entire day was devoted to discussions and demonstrations related to this title. Members highlighted the importance of accurate materials property data for product design, analysis, and simulation. They will now work with Granta to implement tools which allow engineers and designers to access and apply this vital data, quickly and traceably, within familiar CAD, CAE, or PLM software.

The meeting concluded with a tour of some of Lockheed Martin's facilities: members were particularly interested in advanced technologies, such as those involving large sapphire single crystals to enable high precision optical and infrared viewing capabilities, and in the use of 3D printing and rapid prototyping to make complex precursors.

The next MDMC meeting will be hosted by Sandia National Labs in California on July 31-August 1, 2013.
