Material Data Management Consortium
3rd Meeting at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center
January 14th and 15th 2004

The members of the Materials Data Management Consortium (MDMC) gathered at the Space and Rocket
Center in Huntsville, Alabama hosted by NASA Marshall Space Flight Center to celebrate the
start of the Consortium's second year. Dr. Steven M. Arnold of NASA Glenn Research Center
chaired the meeting and started proceedings by warmly welcoming Concurrent Technologies
Corporation the newly joined member and the two prospective groups from Los Alamos National
Labs to the consortium.
The expanded two-day format gave the members time to get down to the business of designing
software systems for managing their internal materials information. A comprehensive review of
the software systems delivered during the previous six months period was carried out.
This was combined with user stories from the members showing how they had employed the system
and the benefits they had gained from it.
Further time was spent looking into the future of
information technology with demonstrations of secure read-write enterprise based materials
information systems. Such a system, based around the MDMC members' requirements, will be delivered at the next meeting.
The Materials Data Management Consortium is managed by ASM International, with a
Steering Committee chaired by Dr Steven M. Arnold of the Life Prediction Branch at NASA
Glenn Research Center (GRC). Granta Design is the software contractor.
