GRANTA RELEASES CES EDUPACK 2006 FOR ENHANCED MATERIALS ENGINEERING
EDUCATION
World-leading teaching resource is extended and updated
Cambridge – March 16, 2006 – Granta Design has announced
the release of the CES EduPack 2006, a new version of the world-leading
teaching toolkit for materials and process education in engineering.
EduPack, with users at over five hundred universities worldwide, now
offers enhanced support for introductory materials courses and significantly
improved graphical visualization features. Major additions and updates
have been made to EduPack’s extensive database of properties and
processes. A new edition is designed for courses in architecture.
CES EduPack embodies a proven teaching method, developed by Professor
Mike Ashby at the University of Cambridge and centered on the CES EduPack
software. Innovative learning is supported by a range of books, teaching
resources, and on-line tutorials and texts.
The new EduPack 2006 software includes detailed descriptions that explain
the underlying materials science behind each property held in its database.
Written by Professor Mike Ashby, and linked directly to database entries,
this information allows students to explore, in context, important engineering
attributes such as Young’s modulus, fracture toughness, or dielectric
constant. The result is excellent support for introductory materials
courses, helping students to connect materials science and engineering.
Professor Ashby worked with Professor Jon Fernandez of MIT to create
the new EduPack edition for architecture and the built environment. This
augments existing specialist editions covering materials, mechanical
engineering, manufacturing, aerospace, polymers, product design, and
eco-engineering.
All users will benefit from new visualization features that help students
to study families of materials and to learn about the science that defines
them. Database improvements include new information on biopolymers, the
addition of key properties for eco-engineering, and updated material
prices.
“CES EduPack is a collaboration between Granta and the worldwide
EduPack community,” says Professor Mike Ashby. “This new
release responds to many of the key suggestions and feedback from that
community, and I am delighted that we are able to further enhance their
teaching and learning experience.”
