Granta Supports NASA Award-Winners
Granta technology has supported the MAPTIS II
development team, recently awarded a 'One NASA'
award for their work in providing NASA, NASA contractors, and
NASA-associated organizations with a single-point source and
access to materials information.
The team of engineers from the materials and process laboratory
at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, led by Michael Mitchell,
has created a web-based application that revises and expands
the original MAPTIS database. MAPTIS consisted primarily of space
environmental data generated by NASA test organizations, along
with documentation on materials certification for space applications.
MAPTIS-II adds mechanical, physical, thermal, thermophysical,
and thermal protection system materials properties. Data has
been included from tests conducted at NASA/MSFC (4 test groups),
NASA/JSC’s
White Sands Test Facility, NASA/KSC, NASA/GSFC, and NASA/JPL.
Links were also established to external data sources such as
ASM International and MMPDS.
Through NASA's membership of the Material Data Management Consortium,
GRANTA MI has been deployed as a key enabling technology for
the MAPTIS project. The project and award illustrate the value
of effective materials information management to a world-leading
engineering organization.
