New 3rd Edition of Ashby’s Materials Selection in Mechanical Design now
available from Granta
Professor Mike Ashby’s immensely popular textbook, Materials
Selection in Mechanical Design, has been fully revised for a third
edition
in 2005. With its innovative and reader-friendly approach, earlier
editions
(1991, 1999) established the book as a leading text for teaching
materials selection in engineering.
Since publication of the Second Edition, changes have occurred in
the fields of materials and mechanical design, as well as in the way
that these and related subjects are taught. The 3rd Edition has been
comprehensively revised and reorganized to address these. New content
covers process, material and shape selection, the design of hybrid
materials, ‘eco’ selection, and industrial design. Graphics are
improved with all new figures and two-color printing.
Throughout, content is now more fully integrated with Granta’s CES
EduPack. One resulting bonus is that the majority of charts are now
available for students to reproduce directly from the EduPack software.
Used together, Materials Selection in Mechanical Design and Granta’s
CES EduPack provide a complete materials, manufacturing and desgn course.
A copy of Materials Selection in Mechanical Design is bundled with
every new CES EduPack order. Copies are also available to order from
Granta at a discounted price of $60.00/€40.00/£25.00 each.
