Test Lab to Engineers' Desktops

One critical workflow, among others, that the MDMC helps for aerospace and similar organizations is the flow of information from test laboratory to the engineers' desktops where it is used in design.

A recent Granta white paper estimated that a typical mid-sized engineering company loses over $1 million annually due to issues such as:

  • Engineers spending hours finding property data to support analysis or simulation

  • Materials scientists duplicating existing test results or generating data that goes unused

  • Design iterations failing due to outdated or inconsistent data

  • Weeks taken tracing the source of design data for certification, or customers, or to support the design process

GRANTA MI, the MDMC software solution, addresses these problems by helping at each stage in the diagram above:

  • GRANTA MI's data capture capabilities make it easy to import data from test machines and legacy data sources

  • Specialist analysis capabilities enable the generation of design data through statistical roll-up and analysis of test data

  • Such in-house information can be augmented and refined through integration with external reference sources, such as those from MMPDS and ASME

  • Granta provides a range of tools to apply this integrated information source in making materials decisions

  • Finally, property data and the knowledge developed from them can both be deployed directly to engineers for use in design. GRANTA MI provides simple web browser-based access, or integration with CAE, FEA, or other software - enabling engineers to get the information directly within their familiar software environments.
