Restricted Substances Information Analyst: Cambridge, UK

In 2008 Granta and industry partners established the Environmental Materials Information Technology (EMIT) Consortium to drive development of software tools and best practice for environmental problems and regulations facing industry. We are now looking for a chemical or material scientist to join our Restricted Substances product development team.

What you'll be doing:

  • Develop, maintain, and support Granta's Restricted Substances product. At the core of this is the Restricted Substances database of over 75 regulations and over 6,000 chemicals substances that are restricted in industrial manufacturing applications.
  • Develop material and process data products to support a number of European Collaborative Projects and other projects prioritised by the EMIT Consortium. For example, you will be involved in the development of risk metrics for restricted substances, resource scarcity, nano materials, and geo political factors.

The ideal candidate:

  • Degree (e.g. Bachelors, Masters, PhD) in chemistry, materials science, or chemical engineering
  • Computer skills: advanced Excel, VBA, relational databases, modelling
  • Sound understanding of the chemical composition of materials, notably metals, plastics, elastomers, composites, coatings, and adhesives.
  • Awareness of the regulatory mechanisms that are impacting substances used within products, and in the manufacturing of products. For instance: restrictions and bans on the use of hexavalent chromium-based coatings; restrictions and bans on phthalate plasticisers
  • Professional experience in materials, chemicals, and restricted substances
