Granta Design leads the materials information technology market, experiencing year-on-year growth over the past 10 years with unique software products and a great reputation. NASA, Rolls Royce, Intel and many other industry leaders world-wide are using our software to go higher, lighter and greener. As the company has grown, so have our Windows Server based IT systems, and we now need to restructure and expand the IT team to cope with the increased demands on their skills and time. What you will be doing:

• You will have general responsibility for managing IT needs at all levels for our 75 strong company; from design and implementation of networking and systems through to ensuring that new hires have the right setup when they arrive. You will ensure that these needs are all met effectively, either as personal duties or by assigning them to members of your team or resources otherwise made available to you.
• Your primary responsibility will be to proactively manage our strategic, tactical and routine IT needs, from specification and acquisition of external hosted systems through disaster recovery to managing triage for the internal help desk system.
• You will be responsible for managing the IT team and its expansion going forwards.

About you

• You are able to take a long term strategic view of the company’s IT needs.  You are able to effectively manage the resources available to you to make progress against those needs, while retaining a focus on medium term tactical and short term day-to-day issues.
• You are an effective communicator at all levels of the company.  For example: you can engage with management on issues ranging from those requiring major capital expenditure to reporting on progress against monthly and annual targets; you are proactive in ensuring that individual users are kept informed on progress made on their reported issues; and you can negotiate with suppliers to secure the best available deal for IT supplies and services.
• You will be continuously looking for ways to improve the IT operations of the company, both in providing new capabilities and maintaining the stability of existing ones; but understand that on balance sometimes the best system is the one which works exactly as it does now.
• You will be self managing and motivated by the prospect of designing and managing an IT system which supports the continued growth of the company.  Possibly you are working for a smaller company and want to expand your horizons; or in a larger company and want to work somewhere where you have a voice and the ability to put in place the systems that you know do what needs to be done.
• You will have a few years experience working in a Windows Server based systems.  Ideally you will have experience in migrating from SBS2003 to full Windows Server systems, and experience of working in a variety of virtualization environments.
