Environmental Materials-Information Consultant

Granta is looking for a candidate with an engineering, materials or environmental background to join our team for a 12-month internship. The role will cover a range of technical and commercial projects that will support the development of Granta's eco design software solutions. Successful completion of the internship could lead to a long-term position. Salary is competitive and dependent on experience and qualifications with 25 days holiday (and 9 public holidays).
Main Duties
Environmental data research
- Develop environmental data products (for example energy, carbon footprinting): plan, research, build, and maintain information resources for materials, processes and entire product life cycles.
- Develop modelling capabilities for material and process eco properties. Data mining and estimation to create additional datasets for the Granta databases.
- Testing of software to ensure accuracy and consistency of calculations.
- Report to the Environmental Product Specialist and the internal team on project progress and the implementation of new analytical methods where applicable.
Software Training
- Help train customers to use the Granta Eco Audit software. Granta often does on-site or Internet-based training for its customers. The intern would be required to elp run these courses.
- Customise training courses for specific customer needs.
- Create additional course content, case studies and exercises as the need arises.

Requirements
- A Bachelors or higher degree (e.g. PhD, MSc.) in materials science, engineering or environmental science.
- Good knowledge of one or more of the following:
- Materials & Processes—The minimum is for the candidate to have covered engineering materials as part of a general engineering course;
- Environmental product assessment or eco design—Good understanding of the principles of energy, carbon footprinting and other environmental factors and some of the data-related challenges in this area i.e. precision, system boundaries etc. You might have experience of Life Cycle Assessment.
- Some computing background. Good Excel skills at the minimum, preferably some programming experience, e.g. Visual Basic. A genuine interest in developing their IT skills.
- Must have a reasonable command of the English language.
