Product Manager—Eco Design

£Neg (depending on experience) + health/gym + pension + share options.

Granta seeks a motivated, enthusiastic individual with a strong interest in sustainable design and a background in engineering or the physical sciences to help us drive forward our emerging eco design software business.

The job will be located in our Cambridge, UK offices.

Background

Granta is the leader in materials information technology—software that helps engineering and manufacturing organizations to manage and use data relating to materials (metals, composites, plastics, ceramics...). A major growth area is the application of this technology to estimate the environmental impact of products early in the design process, helping to guide environmentally sustainable design. Granta’s growing portfolio in this area includes: software to estimate eco impact and inform materials selection; eco analysis tools integrated into the Computer-Aided Design (CAD) environment; and enterprise software that development teams to report on and improve product environmental performance. Granta works with leading engineering enterprises to develop this portfolio, in particular members of the Environmental Materials Information Technology (EMIT) Consortium including Emerson Electric, EADS Astrium, Eurocopter, Honeywell, NASA, and Rolls-Royce.

The role

Your job will be as Product Manager for this portfolio of products.  This is a collaborative, multi-disciplinary role, working with Granta’s customers and our product development, marketing, sales, and service teams.  Your job is to determine the key actions to ensure that Granta’s business in this area grows and develops, and to make sure those actions are implemented.  You will:

  • Maintain Granta’s strategic and product plans for eco design, making sure that they keep track of market requirements, technology trends, and developments in related products
  • Build close relationships with Granta customers, EMIT Consortium members, and other potential users of Granta tools in order to understand their needs and help them select the right solutions
  • Provide detailed requirements for each cycle of on-going product development and work closely with Granta’s development team to ensure they build great products that meet those requirements
  • Consider all aspects of Granta’s product and service offering for eco design—including issues such as product support, documentation, pricing, distribution, and licensing—to ensure the best possible customer experience
  • Represent Granta at conferences and participate in industry projects and events in order to ensure that Granta is effectively ‘plugged in’ to the eco design community
  • Promote Granta's products to companies that could benefit, working with the Granta marketing communications and sales team to increase usage and meet financial targets

Some international travel will be required.

You will have:

  • Post-degree experience in (or working with) industry—ideally in product management, management of collaborative projects, business development, or similar areas
  • Enthusiasm, a proactive attitude, a proven ability to work collaboratively, and strong communications and presentation skills. You will be a product 'champion' within Granta and beyond
  • A strong academic background. You must hold a degree in mechanical engineering, materials science, or a closely related discipline. Post-graduate qualifications (masters degree or PhD) in engineering, materials, business, or in sustainability/environmental topics would be an advantage
  • Experience of one or more of the following and their practical impact in industry: eco-design (eco audit and other design tools); lifecycle assessment (LCA, ISO 14040, carbon labelling...); or environmental regulations (REACH, ErP, RoHS, ELV...)
