Data Products Leader: Materials and Processes

£28-35k (depending on experience) + health/gym + pension + share options
Granta develops material and process property data products for use with our GRANTA MI and CES software packages.
- Internally researched products: Material Universe, Process Universe, EduPack databases, CAE databases, Eco properties and Restricted Substances
- Collaborative products: such as the Granta/ASM medical materials database
- Products built from 3rd party licensed data: MMPDS, CMH-17, ASME BPV code, CAMPUS, IDES plastics….
We are investing in further development of these products and need a computer-adept material scientist to lead this effort. The job is an opportunity to have a major impact on the future of materials in the field of engineering and design.
The role:
- Lead a team that develops these products: plan projects, research data sources, implement (hands-on), coordinate and supervise implementation
- Maintain best practices for material data management within Granta
- Improve efficiency, turnaround, responsiveness, up-to-dateness, and quality
- Develop modeling capabilities: material and process cost; eco properties; mechanical, thermal, etc
- Could include, though not as the main part of the job, some consultancy and implementation projects for external customers.
The ideal candidate:
- Bachelors or higher degree (e.g. PhD) in materials, metallurgy, manufacturing, or similar
- Sound understanding of material and processing properties: metals, polymers, ceramics, composites, and natural materials
- Good computer skills: advanced Excel, VBA, and modelling skills; database and SQL experience an advantage.
- An appreciation for the applications of materials property databases
- Ideally, experience of materials and manufacturing in an industry served by Granta: e.g. aerospace, defense, energy, medical, consumer, electrical, electronics, oil & gas…
