EMIT logoThe Environmental Materials Information Technology (EMIT) Consortium is a collaborative project that develops and applies information technology solutions to enable product design and development in the context of environmental objectives and regulations. These solutions are centered on information and decisions relating to materials and processes.

Consortium members are manufacturing organizations and related agencies. The first five-year Phase ran from 2008-2013. Phase II of the project is open to new members. These members are able to apply the existing software technology and information resources developed by Phase I of the project, and to guide development in Phase II towards their most critical needs. The two key focus areas are:

  • Assessing and avoiding risk relating to Restricted Substance (e.g., those covered by the REACH regulation) and Critical Materials
  • Eco design to meet objectives such as reducing the energy usage or carbon footprint of your products

The EMIT Consortium helps to guide development of Granta's software and data in this area. Members apply this software to address environmental issues during design.

Benefits of membership

  • Participation in all Consortium Meetings and conference calls
  • A formal vote in the process to prioritize developments, aiming to ensure that your specific needs are met at a fraction of the cost of developing in-house solutions
  • Regular networking with other members, helping you to identify and implement best practice
  • Privileged and early access to selected new software and data developed during the project
  • Dedicated training and support from the EMIT technical team
