CES EduPack 2007 launched
The new release of CES EduPack is now out! CES EduPack 2007 is a landmark release in the progress of this unique teaching toolkit, which can now support courses relating to materials and processes across engineering and design curricula. CES EduPack spans the spectrum from specialist materials courses to general engineering and manufacturing courses, and the complete range of students from first year to postgraduate. New features (detailed below) enable students at any level in any course to explore materials properties, perform materials selections, and drill down to fundamental information on the underlying science. The scope of CES EduPack is a factor in an increasing number of faculty- and campus-wide licenses, as universities take advantage of an easy means to trial the software in new areas, aiming to promote consistency and connections across varied courses.

New textbook from Professor Mike Ashby
Materials: Engineering, Science,
Processing and Design is a new materials engineering textbook published this week. Ashby, Shercliff and Cebon provide an introductory materials text for first and second year education, using an appealing design-led approach and closely supported by the CES EduPack 2007 software. The book includes many exercises using the software. This third supporting text for CES EduPack, in addition to Materials Selection in Mechanical Design and Materials in Design, means that complete coverage is now provided from first to final year, and from specialist materials science to design.

Improved materials selection capabilities
More intuitive operation and reduced learning time make EduPack 2007 a better experience for all users. Usability improvements include a streamlined approach to systematic materials selection. New selection features include the ability to generate and interact with a list of materials ranked against chosen selection criteria. These improvements make analysis much easier – particularly for selection criteria involving combinations of properties.

New PowerPoint lectures - download them now!
Twelve revised, downloadable PowerPoint lectures - complete with lecturer's notes - are now available as part of the updated EduPack. These introduce the world of materials and processes, guide students through the procedure for material and process selection, and discuss topics such as eco-selection. Updates include new units for specialist applications such as architecture. This valuable teaching resource helps you to save time in creating great courses.
If you have a current license for CES EduPack, you can download these lectures now!

Enhanced science notes
Introduced in 2006, 'science notes' now extend to users at all levels of the EduPack. This feature enables students to drill-down to textbook-style information covering the underlying science behind materials properties. This is an engaging way to explore materials fundamentals.

New and extended specialist info - Elements database & Architecture edition
A new database provides the fundamental crystallographic, mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties of elements across the Periodic Table. This is particularly helpful for materials science courses or engineering courses with more materials depth.
The Architecture Edition is now a much stronger tool for learning about architectural materials, with a more extensive database, thorough notes providing background information on key materials properties, and an integrated database of structural sections.
