Courses: reports from MIT, Berkeley, Cambridge
The 2008 program of one day courses in Teaching Engineering Materials with Professor Mike Ashby got off to a great start with events at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of California at Berkeley, and Cambridge University during March and April. Representatives of 35 universities from over a dozen countries attended the three courses, providing a great opportunity for the exchange of teaching experiences. The next course will be held at the ASEE Conference in Pittsburgh - see next item.

Eco, Bio, what's your hot topic...?
Feedback from users (or prospective users) is very important to the development of CES EduPack. In the 2008 version, this feedback loop is strengthed with a "Feature request" button in the software. Users can press this button, fill out a form, and their requirements will be reviewed as Granta prioritizes future developments.
Such input has had a big influence on recent EduPack releases. Interest in supporting introductory materials courses led Granta to introduce different levels of the EduPack database and a range of features for first and second year teaching. Requests for help in more subject areas have resulted in databases for polymers, architecture, aerospace, and, now, bio engineering. Many educators wanted to be sure that EduPack would fit in well with their existing courses, so the 2008 version added references to standard texts such as Callister, Askeland, and Budinski. Eco-design is now clearly a hot topic, and the response to our new Eco Audit Tool has been very positive.
EduPack customers - please use the Feature Request button in the EduPack software!
