Join a day of interactive training to learn about CES EduPack and CES Selector, the materials-related software originally developed by Prof Mike Ashby at the Engineering Department of Cambridge University.

Granta is the world leader in software to support Materials Education and R&D both in academia and industry. We help organizations to manage materials-related information and to apply that information to understand key problems and make smart decisions.

Granta's software has been used by more than a thousand universities worldwide and industry for the last 20 years. CES Selector supports researchers and industrial specialists, while CES EduPack supports educators, both providing powerful materials property data and tools to find, explore and apply this data.

About the Seminar

Workshop The seminar will give an overview of the capabilities of CES EduPack and CES Selector applied to Materials Science and Engineering, Bioengineering, Eco Design and Sustainable Development. The presentation will be focused on their application in teaching, research and data management.

The seminar is open to everyone and free.

About the Workshop

The workshop will let you test the software yourself with interactive, hands-on exercises. You will be able to gain practical knowledge and skills using Granta’s materials-related databases and tools.

The workshop will be led by Dr Claes Fredriksson, Senior Materials Education Consultant, and Dr Tatiana Vakhitova, Eco Design & Sustainability Consultant at Granta Design.

Course Content

Friday, March 10
seminar (free) 10:15 - 11:30

The aim of this seminar is to showcase the databases and tools for visualization, comparison and materials-related decision-making. The presentation will be focused on their application in teaching, research and data management.

There will be time for participants to ask questions and stay afterwards for a brief demonstration or a discussion. If you are interested, you may register for the afternoon workshop which will offer time-limited licenses to attendants.

workshop 13:15 - 15:00
WorkshopIn this workshop, you will:
  • Gain practical knowledge and skills using Granta’s materials-related databases and tools
  • Get insights and tips on how to visualize properties in Ashby’s charts and make use of these
  • Learn how to add your own research data to extend the databases or for comparison with them
  • Get 50 days' access to CES EduPack (Education) and CES Selector (R&D).

This hands-on workshop will give you the opportunity to use the comprehensive databases in CES EduPack and CES Selector, which include comparable information and property data on thousands of materials and manufacturing processes. With the interactive graphing and selection tools, you will immediately be able to engage students, colleagues, or share visual information for your research.
