Course Content

In this workshop you will:

  • Gain practical knowledge and skills regarding composite material properties and informed material selection
  • Learn about specialized composite tools and data to assess, and make accurate materials decisions
  • Receive a time-limited license of the Granta Design software to be used in the workshop

About the presenters

Dr. Claes Fredriksson, Senior Materials Education Consultant, Granta Design
Dr. Claes Fredriksson has more than 15 years’ experience teaching Materials-related subjects to undergraduate and post graduate students in Sweden, Canada, Belgium and the U.S.A, mainly in Mechanical Engineering. After gaining an MSc in Engineering Physics and PhD in Theoretical Physics he worked in both theoretical and experimental research on polymers, metals and biomaterials. He has a passion for teaching and won a grant as part of Sweden’s Excellence in Teaching Programme to enable him to teach in the U.S.A. and facilitate the cross-pollination of pedagogical approaches.

Claes works with academics across the world, collaborating on producing teaching resources and running CES EduPack training.

Dr. Joel Galos, Education & Research Manager, Granta Design
Joel Galos joins Granta Design as an Education & Research Manager for North America having completed a PhD in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Joel has a broad technical background and holds a MSc in Composite Materials from Imperial College London, as well as Bachelor Degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Mathematics from the University of New South Wales. His research has been published in numerous academic journals and he is involved in teaching undergraduate materials laboratory classes at Cambridge. He spent one year of his undergraduate study as an exchange student at Purdue University and he worked briefly as an Aeronautical Design Engineer in Sydney, Australia.
