What's New in CES EduPack 2012

with Prof. Mike Ashby

Please join this web seminar on Wednesday, February 29 (at no cost) for a brief (40-minute) look at What's New in CES EduPack 2012. Prof. Mike Ashby will discuss how these new features can be used to support your teaching, as well as taking your questions.

CES EduPack is the world-leading teaching resource for materials in engineering, science, processing, and design. It provides a comprehensive database of materials and process information, powerful materials software tools, and a range of supporting textbooks, lectures, projects, and exercises. With specialist editions for specific disciplines, and three levels of the database and software to suit varying needs in all years of undergraduate study and in postgraduate teaching, the EduPack is a curriculum-wide resource.

CES EduPack 2012 has new data, new analysis features, and great improvements to usability, based on your feedback. In particular, the latest version can support:

  • Teaching sustainability and eco-aware design—New graphical comparison capabilities in the widely-used Eco Audit Tool make it easy to dynamically explore environmental impact in 'what if' design scenarios. Enhancements to the underlying environmental data are complemented by increased interactivity and usability.
  • Introductory level courses—CES EduPack 2012 has new software features and updated data that help with introductory teaching. For example, a new 'first used' attribute helps students to explore how materials have developed through the ages.
  • Advanced Teaching—Updated data is now available in areas including Polymers, Aerospace, and Sustainability.
  • Teaching courses related to energy/power generation—New information on energy storage systems helps students to quantitatively explore the economic, environmental, and resource-based viability of different energy storage technologies.

There is no cost but registration is required to secure your place. Once you have registered you will receive joining instructions from WebEx's automated system: you may like to add messenger@webex.com to your 'safe senders'. More details on how to join a WebEx, including how to test your settings, here »

What will you see?

The Eco Audit Tool
CES EduPack 2012
  • New features in the EduPack software and additions to the comprehensive information and teaching resources.
  • How the Eco Audit Tool now provides enhanced support for teaching eco-aware design (including performing comparisons of multiple products and use scenarios using the new Eco Summary Chart)
  • How CES EduPack can support teaching in different areas, for example the study of energy storage systems through the newly updated Low Carbon Power Edition
  • New and updated data, for example on metals and polymers
  • How CES EduPack works in practice—see it in case study demonstrations

Who should join the web seminar?

Current CES EduPack users—See the major developments to the software and associated data in recent years.

This web seminar is not appropriate for students.

If you are less familiar with the software, you may prefer to join Granta's Education Director, Marc Fry, on Thursday Feb 16, when he will be providing a more general overview of CES EduPack.
