Supporting most materials-related courses, from introductory level courses, machine design, strength of materials, through to advanced design project work. Its three levels grow in depth (number of properties covered) and breadth (number of materials). At each level, additional data enables progression with the student, from an initial subset of the most common 69 materials through to a comprehensive set of mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, magnetic and environmental properties for over 3,900 engineering materials.

Covering high temperature applications or lightweighting?

Aerospace Edition

High-temperature engineering applications can be explored using authoritative temperature-dependent data from the MMPDS dataset (formerly MIL-HDBK 5), the industry-standard for aero alloys. And you can study composites with the respected CMH-17 data. These augment the standard CES EduPack Materials & Processes data, which offers broad coverage of engineering materials, with different levels to support each stage in a student's progress from pre-university to post-graduate. The Synthesizer Tool enables creation of models and their application to the data—for example, to predict properties of hybrid materials when studying lightweighting, or for part cost estimation when comparing manufacturing routes.

Covering Environmental/Green Design or Sustainable Development?

Sustainable Development Edition

Enhances the standard CES EduPack Materials & Processes database with data to analyze social and environmental impact. The standard data provides engineering data for three levels of study, from an initial subset of the most common 69 materials, to comprehensive coverage of over 3,900 materials. This Edition adds data on durability, carbon footprint, criticality and country of origin. It includes demographic, economic, environmental, and social data for 210 Nations of the world, and summaries of regulations and legislation that impact materials. Lastly, data on low carbon power systems and energy storage also support case studies.

A 5-step method for assessing sustainability within project-based learning or a workshop has been developed. Templates and case studies help educators run these workshops. The Enhanced Eco Audit Tool enables in-depth study of environmental impact and cost through the product lifecycle. The Synthesizer Tool helps model the properties of hybrid materials (useful for lightweighting) and allows you to explore the economics of design using the Part Cost Estimator.

Products, Materials and Processes Database (Pre-Release)

Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes are essential for designers of products from the latest must-have consumer device to a next generation automobile. Well-designed products provide both function and satisfaction—so they also require Designers and Engineers to work well together, appreciating each other's work, and communicating. This new learning tool engages students of both Engineering and Design in learning about materials through a product-centered, visually inspiring, interactive database that provides information on how and from what products are made. You can use this Pre-release database in your teaching at no cost if you have CES EduPack 2016. We simply request that you give feedback.
