Recommended Edition: Teaching Materials for Industrial Design

Design Edition

For basic, introductory level courses, this Edition provides information on around 100 of the most common materials and processes. It has inspiring images, searchable typical uses, and accessible data. A Process Cost Model allows comparison of shaping properties in terms of relative cost per unit. The Eco Audit Tool allows students to explore scenarios for different designs.

Covering Design Projects where specific grades are important?

Standard Edition

Supporting most materials-related courses, from introductory level courses, machine design, strength of materials, through to advanced design project work. Its three levels grow in depth (number of properties covered) and breadth (number of materials). At each level, additional data enables progression with the student, from an initial subset of the most common 69 materials through to a comprehensive set of mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical, magnetic and environmental properties for over 3,900 engineering materials.

Trying to demonstrate the value of learning about materials?

Products, Materials and Processes Database (Pre-Release)

Knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes are essential for designers of products from the latest must-have consumer device to a next generation automobile. Well-designed products provide both function and satisfaction—so they also require Designers and Engineers to work well together, appreciating each other's work, and communicating. This new learning tool engages students of both Engineering and Design in learning about materials through a product-centered, visually inspiring, interactive database that provides information on how and from what products are made. You can use this Pre-release database in your teaching at no cost if you have CES EduPack 2016. We simply request that you give feedback.
