Recommended Edition: Teaching Materials for Architecture

Architecture Edition

Supporting materials-related courses and design studios, from introductory level to advanced design project work. The Architecture Edition includes an adapted version of the core CES EduPack Materials & Processes database which categorizes materials by the building sub-system and inspires students with images of materials used in architecture, and alternative materials not yet used. Two levels of data enable progression with the student, from an initial subset of the most common 69 materials to a set of more than 120 materials with mechanical, thermal, hygrothermal, durability and flammability properties. Environmental properties are included, including water usage and other properties important for LEED certification. The Eco Audit Tool is particularly useful in design classes to enable discussion and modelling of different options.

Sustainability & the Built Environment Edition

This Edition combines Level 2 data from the Architecture database with the comprehensive data at Level 3. It provides mechanical, thermal, optical, flammability, durability, magnetic and environmental properties for over 3,900 engineering materials. Information on water usage, embodied energy, toxicity, carbon footprint, NOx and SOx values are important for courses that promote designing to LEED Certification standards. The Enhanced Eco Audit Tool enables more detailed environmental audits of products and buildings, at each stage of their life, including their cost. The Synthesizer Tool helps model the properties of hybrid materials, including sandwich panels and naturally based composites, which can be useful for optimizing design.
