Recorded Web Seminar—Teaching Sustainable Engineering & Eco Design

Date of web seminar: March 2, 2010

Presenter: Professor Mike Ashby

Sustainability and eco design are topics of increasing interest in engineering, materials, and manufacturing courses. University educators aim to integrate into their courses sustainability concepts such as:

  • minimizing resource consumption

  • limiting emissions and waste

  • analyzing the product life cycle

They want to help students develop the skills needed to embed these concepts into design—for example, prioritization, sensitivity analysis, and rational material and process selection based on environmental impact. In this web seminar, leading materials engineering educator, Professor Mike Ashby, shows how the teaching of these topics is supported by the CES EduPack.
