CES4.1 Release Notes These Release Notes apply to the following products as indicated below: * CES4 EDU Editions (EDU) * CES4 Professional Editions (Pro) * Optimal Polymer Selector (OPS) The Release Notes detail the enhancements in CES4.1 compared with the previous release, CES4.0. Software Enhancements (EDU, Pro, OPS) CES SELECTOR Temperature Units The temperature is now displayed in Celsius or Fahrenheit by default with Kelvin and Rankine available as options. Material Data Network The 'Search Web' button in CES SELECTOR and CONSTRUCTOR now automatically searches the entire Material Data Network (www.matdata.net) for additional information, from e.g. ASM Handbooks Online, about a selected material or process record. (It is necessary to purchase separate subscriptions to some of the data sets in the Material Data Network to see the data although it may be searched without subscription). CES CONSTRUCTOR Database Updater The database updater capability in CONSTRUCTOR has been completely revised and is presented with a new user-interface. The updater is used to update one database with data from a second. For example, it is possible to update a customized company database with the latest Granta Design release database; or to update company database 'A' with information that has been entered into company database 'B'. Database Enhancements CES4.1 and the associated information system in the Material Data Network are now by far the single largest integrated collection of quality engineering materials available in the world. A wide range of new data has been added to the current CES databases. MATERIALUNIVERSE Database (EDU, Pro) 15 new records added to cover the new MIL-HDBK-17 materials. NEW MIL-HDBK-5 Data (EDU, Pro) The fastener data from MIL-HDBK-5H CN1 (now MMPDS) is now included in CES4.1 so the CES selection procedure can be applied to joint design. The user can select a joint configuration based on the design requirement e.g. "I'm using 3 mm aluminium 2024 sheet and it needs to withstand a certain load. What fasteners will meet these design requirements?" or "I've selected this metallic material from CES MIL-Handbook-5 database. What fasteners can be used with it?" NEW MIL-HDBK-17 Data (EDU, Pro) The addition of metal matrix composite (MMC) and ceramic matrix composite (CMC) data plus the latest version of the polymer matrix composites (PMC) gives a significantly enhanced CES MIL-Handbook-17 database. This is the first time the MMC and CMC data has been made available outside the MIL-HDBK-17 consortium. CES4.1 contains over 1,100 records of test data for PMCs, MMCs and CMCs. Graphical data e.g. stress-strain curves, fatigue curves are also available. NEW CAMPUS Data (EDU, Pro, OPS) The CES CAMPUS(r) database now contains over 6,000 polymer grades. Polymer data has been extended to include chemical resistance information and specific properties for thermoplastic elastomers and film grades. Granta's agreement with the CAMPUS consortium ensures that the CAMPUS data is always the latest available. NEW Polymer Tradenames (EDU, Pro, OPS) The Tradenames list for the POLYMERUNIVERSE database has been extensively revised and enlarged and now contains 1310 names for 540 generic polymer grades. The tradename list answers questions such as "Which companies produce this material?" or "What resin is this tradename?" NEW Producer Data (EDU, Pro, OPS) Contact details of 90% of primary material producers are included in CES4.1 and linked to the corresponding materials records. Typical questions that can be answered include: "Which companies produce this material?" or "I'm currently using X producer's grade of PA66. Which other companies produce PA66". The 'Supplier' table that was available in previous versions of the software has been removed. CES EDUPACK (EDU) The Structural Sections table has been removed from the Level 1 and 2 databases. Level 1 and 2 databases are also available in French. New images have been added to Flexible and Rigid Foams, Ionomers, Phenolics, Polycarbonates. Materials data has been corrected and added - bulk modulus added throughout, data for concrete and stone has been upgraded. The following Eco-properties have been added to the Level 2 database : Product energy Carbon dioxide per kg of material Suitability of a material for the following: Recycling Downcycling Biodegrading Incineration Landfill Renewing OPS User Manual The OPS User Manual is to be found on the CD in PDF format. To read them you will need to download the free Adobe Acrobat reader from www.adobe.com. There are two manuals; OPSManual.pdf is for the typical OPS user and covers selection with OPS data. OPSConstructorManual.pdf is for the advanced user and covers customization of the database. ?? Index /continued over
