People & historyGranta originates from a materials engineering software collaboration between Professor Mike Ashby and Dr David Cebon at Cambridge University. More on Granta's people... Founded in 1994, and initially focused on teaching, our technology developed to support industrial materials and process optimization. ASM International, the world’s largest professional society for materials engineering, invested in Granta in May 2000 and became a key strategic partner. Customer needs drove us to address wider issues of materials information management, analysis, and deployment in enterprises. Working with customers including members of the Material Data Management Consortium (MDMC), a collaborative project of top engineering organizations, we developed GRANTA MI to meet these requirements.
